The Reading Olympian program promotes reading, teamwork, self-confidence, and just plain reading for fun. It doesn’t matter what kind of reader you are; there are books on the list just for you. We encourage all BCMS students to join Reading Olympians and take part in the activities. The olympians will work in teams to collectively read from the list of 24 books between September and January.
There are two levels of competition. All olympians will compete at the school level competition. From there, the top four scoring teams will participate in the Hanover County Reading Olympian competition in which olympians will compete against other top scoring teams from middle schools in Hanover County. At both the school and county competitions, students will answer questions about the books and teams will earn points for correct answers. Immediately following each competition, we'll hold a fun ceremony, and all participants will receive a medal or ribbon for their hard work and dedication to reading.
Parents interested in coaching a Reading Olympian team are encouraged to contact a school librarian.
This year’s Reading Olympian calendar is posted in members’ Reading Olympian Schoology courses.
