Clubs & Organizations

Participation in clubs and activities helps students develop a sense of camaraderie and make friendships based on common interests. We encourage students to get involved and have some fun while they learn new skills.

Animal Lovers 6th only Hey, all you 6th graders: Do you have a pet? Would you like to find out more about our furry friends? If you do, then you need to join the Animal Lovers Club!    N/A
Anime Drawing 6th, 7th & 8th Do you love to draw Anime or comics? Are you interested in learning how to? Would you like to share your expertise with others? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the club for you! No experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and any drawing supplies you may have. N/A 
Boating and Water Safety 7th & 8th Students will learn about boating safety, equipment, navigation, and nautical terms. This is a Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) Boat Virginia course and participating students who meet the course requirements will be allowed to take the exam to receive their boating safety education card. There is no fee for the club, but students who pass the exam may apply to VDGIF for a lifetime card for $10.  N/A 
Book Club 6th, 7th & 8th Come join your peers to read and discuss a book of your choosing. No worksheets, written questions, or book reports to be done. We will simply read, share, and enjoy the wonderful world of reading! N/A 
Cards 6th, 7th & 8th Are you a card shark? Do you enjoy learning new card games? Students will be encouraged to share various card games with other group members. The only requirement to join is a deck of cards. Put your game hat on and join the fun! N/A 
 Chess and Checkers  6th, 7th & 8th Chess and Checker Club members will experience chess/checker instruction and play in a fun-filled environment designed to improve skills whether interested in casual or competitive chess/checker play. This club  includes a mix of classroom instruction and practice sessions.  N/A 
 Coloring 6th, 7th & 8th  Do you enjoy doodling or coloring for fun? Do you love to decorate your binder or notebooks with markers or crayons? Join the Coloring Club where you can sit back, relax, and just take pleasure in coloring fun and exciting pictures!   N/A
 Crafts 6th, 7th & 8th  If you have a flair for the creative and enjoy making things, the Craft Club is for you! We will make lots of fun arts and crafts this year. This club is open to any BCMS student, and no experience is needed. The fee to join is $2.00.   $2 
 Creative Writing/Blogging 6th, 7th & 8th  Do you like the idea of writing for fun instead of a grade? Do you enjoy hearing about the adventures of others or writing about your own? No matter how good or bad a writer you may think you are, the Creative Writing and Blogging Club is for you! We’ll have the chance to write, discuss, and create. All are welcomed, and spelling doesn’t count!   N/A
 Cross-Stitch 6th, 7th & 8th  Enjoy creating beautiful cross-stitch ornaments and decorations! This club teaches students the basic cross-stitch skills that will enable you to continue creating unique pieces for years. The Cross-Stitch Club does require a fee of $5 in order to purchase cross-stitch supplies.    $5
 Debate 6th, 7th & 8th  Do you enjoy discussing important issues and giving your opinion while you learn what others think? That is what we will do in Debate Club. Using guidelines we develop based on other debate societies, Debate Club members will choose topics important to them to research, discuss, and try to convince others of their point of view. This club is good for students who are strong speakers or those looking to get out of their shells in a safe environment. We are looking for students from all grade levels and backgrounds for lively discussion in the Debate Club. Join us!   N/A
Drawing   6th, 7th & 8th  Animals, people, landscapes, cartoons - what will you draw? Bring your drawing pad, colored pencils, and pens! If you don't have a drawing pad, notebook paper is fine! Share your creativity and originality with others! Drawing is a great way to relax and visit with others and to see what you can create.  N/A
Drawing for People Who Can't Draw   6th, 7th & 8th Have you always wished you could draw but couldn't? This club will use YouTube tutorials to draw popular characters. Come and see what you are capable of!   N/A
Fear Not  6th, 7th & 8th  The Fear Not Club is a student-led club designed to help members experience Christian fellowship, study the Bible, and provide opportunities to serve our school, our local community, and beyond. This club is open to anyone.   N/A
 Fellowship of Christian Athletes  6th, 7th & 8th The purpose is to aid in the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social growth of any student athletic.   N/A
 Fitness 6th, 7th & 8th  The Fitness Club is for those students who are interested in health and fitness as a part of their everyday lifestyle. If you want to have fun exercising, learn about healthy eating and improve your overall fitness, then this club is for you!   N/A 
Fitness Dance Club  6th, 7th & 8th  AKA Cardio Line Dancing. Let's get active while having some fun line dancing to the Wobble, Cupid Shuffle, Biker's Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide, Chicken Dance, Macarena, etc.!    N/A 
Future Farmers of America (FFA)  7th & 8th  FFA is open to 7th and 8th grade students who are or will be enrolled in an agriculture class at BCMS this year. We will be attending Mechanicsville FFA events after school, traveling to awesome places such as Virginia Tech and Graves Mountain for competitions that range from forestry to animal science to agriculture mechanics, and many more events inside the school day. Come out and join us this year as we break new ground in FFA with visits from FFA state officers, new fundraisers, and always fun times. FFA Club dues are $14. You must pay dues to Mr. Wright to be in FFA.   $14 
 Gab Girl Club 6th, 7th & 8th  The purpose is to gather and talk about important topics of interest to girls and provide supportive bonding to one another.   N/A
 Games 6th, 7th & 8th  Come join us for fun and friendly board game competition!  We will play a wide variety of games during each club meeting. Take your pick and enjoy meeting new friends!  N/A 
 Garden 6th, 7th & 8th  Would you like to help maintain a relaxing and enjoyable garden in our courtyard? Do you have a fantastic, creative, and welcoming landscape plan for our front entrance? The Garden Club will help care for our current garden plus work on adding new and interesting landscapes. Other areas of care will include the front of BCMS and the vernal pool area. Students who join the Garden Club need to be willing to work with their hands and bring ideas for planting.   N/A
Latin Dance   6th, 7th & 8th In this lively club we will explore different Latin rhythms, music, and dances such as Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Flamenco, Vallenato, Bachata as well as traditional folk dances. So come get your toes tapping and your body moving to these beautiful Latin dances!  N/A 
 Lego Club 6th, 7th & 8t  Lego Club is a place where you can build your own adventures, stretch your imagination, have fun, make friends, create, and brick build. We will have fun Lego challenges to complete each month.   N/A

 Pen Pals Club 6th, 7th & 8th  The purpose of this club is to provide students with an opportunity to share creative ways of communication through decorative cards, letters, and pictures.  N/A 
 Pep Band 7th & 8th  Pep band is the performing group for BCMS basketball games and other sporting events. Only student enrolled in band 2 or band 3 are eligible for this club.   N/A 
Pinterest   6th, 7th & 8th  Are you crafty and creative? Let’s spend some time together exploring Pinterest for easy, do-it-yourself projects to decorate your room, make gifts for friends, or just to have fun! We will make a few projects and bookmark others that are interesting enough to create on our own.  N/A
 Reading Olympians: The Next Chapter 6th, 7th & 8th  This club is optional for Reading Olympian (RO) members to catch up on your reading, discuss RO books, and share ideas and strategies with other RO members. You must be on a Reading Olympian team to be a part of RO: The Next Chapter.   N/A 
Recycling   6th, 7th & 8th Are you passionate about the environment? If so, join the Recycling Club as we spread the message to BCMS about our important job to reduce, reuse, and recycle! We will work to make our school more environmentally friendly, and we need your help. In addition to our monthly meetings, you will be assigned an area of the school where you will be responsible for emptying the recycle bins on a regular basis. Join us!  N/A 
 Rubik's Cube 6th, 7th & 8th  Have you ever wanted to learn how to solve a Rubik's cube? This club is for anyone who wants to learn how to solve for the first time or just wants to work on their speed. BCMS will also be sending a team to a regional competition this spring, and this club is a great place to sharpen your skills. Don't worry - anyone can learn how to solve!  N/A 
 Scrapbooking 6th, 7th & 8th  Join us to create your own mini-scrap book, stamping, cards, and bookmarks. You may be asked to provide some of your own supplies for this creative outlet.   N/A
 Sign Language 6th, 7th & 8th  Open to all interested students, the Sign Language Club’s purpose is to promote learning and understanding of sign language including the alphabet, numbers, food signs, and basic conversational signs. Come learn a new language and have fun! Did you know that babies can use sign language too? We'll not only learn American Sign Language (ASL), but learn how to modify ASL signs for babies.  N/A 
Spirit  6th, 7th & 8th  Spirit-Spirit, Let’s hear it!” Would you like to help recognize the extra-curricular activities that you and your classmates are a part of here at BCMS? Would you like to spread good cheer throughout the school through the power of positive words? Well, this is the club for you! We will be making locker decorations/signs for those involved in extracurricular activities such as the school play, Reading Olympians, sports, etc. as well as writing positive messages for students and staff members alike. The Spirit Club will also be working with the SCA to help advertise SCA sponsored activities such as school dances.  Stuff You Should Know 6th, 7th & 8th  Are you a guy who would love to learn how to tie a bow tie or a regular tie, give a proper handshake, get organized, or just know how to make a positive first impression? We are going to have a blast learning practical tidbits that go along with living in our world today. You get to decide what topics we talk about each month, so come and join us in tackling these areas and much more!   N/A
Sudoku and Logic Puzzles  6th, 7th & 8th  Students will learn how to do Sudoku puzzles as well as other logic games while gaining strength with problem solving skills.  N/A 
 Walk and Talk  6th, 7th & 8th Walking is great exercise for your heart and leg muscles, and talking is great exercise for your brain! So if you want a good workout, this is the club for you! You will need comfortable shoes and (sometimes) a jacket for cooler weather. Come out and make new friends!   N/A
Word Search and More   6th, 7th & 8th Entertainment in the form of word search puzzles, crossword puzzles, and mandalas. Boost your vocabulary skills while having a fun time doing puzzles or coloring with your classmates.   N/A
World Cultures   6th, 7th & 8th Hola! Bonjour! Guten tag! Ciao! Ola'! Namaste! Hello! Marhaba! Salaam! Konnichiwa! Do you like learning about different cultures? How about listening to music and learning dances from different countries? What about learning key phrases in a different language or learning about a country's folklore and holidays? If you are ready to "travel" to a different country and immerse yourself in the culture, then you need to bring your passport to World Culture Club! Bon voyage, mes amis!  N/A 
World War II Airplanes   6th, 7th & 8th  Come learn about the famous "warbirds" of World War II through interesting readings, videos, and coloring book pages. If you're interested in cool planes, this is the club for you! N/A 
Yoga  6th, 7th & 8th  Chill out, stretch out, create strength, and have fun while learning a little yoga! We will learn ways to relax and feel calm. Wear comfy clothes you can move in each time we meet. You will only need a yoga mat which can be purchased at most places for around $12 to $20. (A $12 mat works the same as a more expensive one. Just make sure it's a "sticky mat".) No shoes required!  N/A
